Roaring River

Today we went to feed the fish at the Roaring River in Missouri with our friends Angela, Jacob, and Conner.  I know I went there a long time ago when my brothers were young but I didn't remember too much so I wasn't sure what to expect.  It is about a 45 minute drive from Fayetteville and the drive was beautiful.  As we were driving we noticed a couple of cars pulled over on the side of the road so we looked to see what all the fuss was about.  We were pleasently surprised when we saw a herd of buffalo!

We all got out to see the big animals up close!  The boys had a lot of fun throwing dried grass over the fence for them to eat!  Addyson wasn't quiet sure what to think of these big animals!
After a quick look, we loaded back up and headed off to feed the fish!  Angela has been here before with Jacob so she came prepared! She had a pocket full of quaters to buy fish food and plastic cups to put it in!  The boys had a blast watching the fish swim up and eat the food!
This place isn't walking baby friendly so I carried Addyson for the first bit.  She loved watching the fish and was pointing to everything and grunting with excitement!
I finally got brave enough to let her explore on her own.  She was so good and seemed to recognize the boundary.  She would go up to the edge and look over but would not try to go any farther.
She wanted a cup of fish food to throw too but I was a bit afraid she'd eat more than she gave the fish! ; )
Luckily, the boys got enough fish to come her way so she was easily distracted!  Owen would throw a hand full and the fish would come up and make a big splash as they were competing for the food!  That was a great sight to see!
I was super impressed when Addyson climbed up on the ledge and sat down to take it all in!  She was also able to get down on her own going feet first!!!  She is getting to be such a big girl!
Here, at the state park hatchery, they had tons of different "tanks" with different sizes of fish.  The kids has so much fun walking up and down the rows looking at them all!!
"Bye Mom, I'm going to catch up with the boys!"
Stopping to take a look!
After the fish food was all gone we headed over to see the cave and waterfall!  On our way there we spotted a snake in the water!  Can you find him???
It was fun to help the boys find him as he swam in the water and then perched himself on a rock.  I was thankful he choose to stay in the water!
What a beautiful sight this was.  A bit nerve racking to have the boys so close the edge and no fence stopping them from falling into this bottomless pit!  Needless to say, I carried Addyson this whole time!
"Look at the waterfall mom!"
Next we headed over to the roaring river to throw rocks, play on the slide, and have lunch.  The boys love to throw rocks in the water!  It didn't take long before they were in the water!
Addyson wanted to be part of the fun.  I was amazed at how she copied them by picking up the rocks and she tried so hard to throw one.  She would shake her arm but would forget to let go.
This place was so beautiful and the weather was wonderful.  So many people were fishing and catching tons of fish.  There are also camp sites available!  I can't wait to bring Brad back here and take pictures of him and Owen fishing in the river!
Before heading home, we had a picnic lunch!  The perfect ending to the perfect morning!  Look what Addyson found for lunch!
She is really starting to notice babies and loves them!  Every time she is around Conner she is very gentle with him and squats down to talk to him.  It is SO sweet!!!  I know that one day she is going to be a great big sister!
As soon as Angela put Conner on the mat, Addyson went right over to give him a huge!!!  What a sweet baby girl!  If you have never been to Roaring River, you need to check it out!  It is a great day or even just a half day trip!
