Eating Fruit

Getting Ethan to try fresh fruit has been a bit of a hard task... something that is really stressing me out even though I try to remind myself to relax... he'll come around (or at least I hope he does).  I try to give him pieces of fresh fruit every now and then and he usually spits it out right away... ugh!  What doesn't he like about fresh fruit?!?!  Is it too sweet???  Is it the texture???  Well I can't just sit back and wait for him to one day like it... so I've been giving him the squeeze pouches of fruit/veggie mixes and some with just fruit mixes and he seems to "like" those... some days he'll eat them and some days he won't.... but I just hope that on the days he does eat them, he is starting to develop a taste for fruit (even if it is slowly.... I'll keep buying the pouches if that's what it takes!!).
With that being said, you can imagine how excited I was when he ate a bit of strawberry today while we were at Chick Fil A with friends.... and he didn't sit it out right away..... no, he actually ate it!!!  And then.... he ate more!!!!  And more!!!!  And then he ate grapes!!!!  I was shocked and excited!!!  While he didn't eat a lot.... it is a start... and I'll take it!!!  I hope by the summer when we are surround by so much yummy fresh fruit, he'll start eating/ liking it more!!!

Feta Water

This week has been a bit of a tough week!!  I was getting ready to write a blog post and brag about how good Ethan was doing sleeping on his own.... the last time he had nursed at night was on Feb. 8th!!  On Feb. 9th Brad and I had our overnight date night and then the following week I slept in Addyson's room while Brad and Ethan slept in our room in our bed and Brad was the one to comfort Ethan all week!  The following week, I moved back into our room and we put Ethan in his crib and comforted him there.... that wasn't easy... many nights we were up and down a lot patting his back... but it got better!!!  Just when we were at the end of our rope, I had Brad sleep in Addyson's room so he could get some much needed rest for work and Ethan pretty much slept ALL night!!  He fussed for a second at 2am but I just said "shhhh!" from our bed and he went to sleep. He did the same thing at 4... and he didn't wake up until 6!!  We were on our way to FINALLY getting some sleep after almost 17 months!!
Then... this week hit!!!  UGH!!!!  He was screaming from his bed from midnight until 4 when I would finally bring him in bed with me.  He would quiet down for 10 minutes and then cry again... it has been terrible!!!  I finally started nursing him around 4 to keep him quiet, for me to try to get some rest, and to try to prevent him from waking up the older two... because he is a SCREAMER!!!!
I'm not exactly sure what the change is but.... I'm thinking/hoping it is teeth.  He is ok during the day but more needy than his usual self and fussy... not my happy, easy going baby.  He cries at night... so he gets no sleep and we get no sleep... so this house is running  a bit on empty... and after about 3 days of no sleep I hit "crazy" mode.... not good.
Which brings me to today.... I'm offically in "crazy" mode!  Ethan was up at 3..... Brad was in Addyson's room.... so I was trying to comfort him myself.... and he woke up Addyson at 3:30... so I had BOTH kids in my bed at 3:30 hoping they didn't wake up Owen and Brad... and I just prayed and prayed and prayed we'd all fall back asleep!!!  Addyson does not do good sleeping with us... it takes her forever to fall asleep... and any time Ethan made a noise she took that opportunity to talk to him.... I was going NUTS!!!!
We finally fell back to sleep to be woken up at 6 by Brad coming in our room..... if looks could kill.... it wasn't pretty!!!  Folks, I'm EXHAUSTED!!!!  So my morning got started off on the wrong foot... then I was late for our carpool so I had to drive OUT OF MY WAY in traffic to get the kids from a different location making me almost late for school.... GRRR!!!!  Before I realized I was late for the carpool, I had called my mom to see if she wanted to meet for coffee... she didn't answer... she called me back at my breaking point.... maybe that was a good thing.... she told me to not worry and to just meet her with the younger two for a coffee... which brings us to these pictures!  I finally got my coffee and breakfast... that was probably part of my problem.. no food and our coffee maker is broken.... I was also able to unload on my mom my worries for the day... she listened and was a great help with the kids giving me a nice break!!  Ahhhh... now I feel better!
Then, instead of having me rush out the door to take Addyson to school... my mom told me to sit and relax, drink my coffee, and take my time and she would take Addyson to school!  I didn't think there would be much relaxing on my part since I was left with the "handful" of the group... but he surprised me!  And this is where "feta water" comes in.... when Brad and his brother were younger and they would go out to eat, their parents would sit them at a different table and when they were done eating and waiting for their parents to finish up they would make "feta water" to entertain themselves.  How do you make "feta water"?  You take your left over food, put it in your water cup, and let it marinate.... well I think that's how the story goes... anyways, that is what Ethan did this morning and it was perfect... he played with his food and was happy, still, and quiet.... and I got to sit back, relax, and drink my coffee!!!  This morning I was thankful for "feta water"... it bought me a bit of much needed quiet time... after a VERY long night (and week)!!!

Night at the Hotel

Life is a bit crazy at our house right now and I was needing a break..... I happened to mention that to Taylor's parents at the birthday party and they said they were not going to use their room they booked so they could have Taylor's party at the hotel and they offered it to us!!!  I called up Brad and told him to pack our overnight bags... we were going to have a mini staycation!!!  And I'm really glad we did!!!
Addyson had woken up from her nap and realized that Owen and I were gone and she cried... she was sad she had missed the party... no worries Sister.... we are going to have our own party now and it is going to be a lot of fun!! : )  Our first stop.... swimming pool!! :)
Headed to the pool with pen and pad of paper in hand!!!  This boy LOVES to write!!!  He was so happy to see the mini pads of paper around the hotel room with a pen near by.... they must have known he was coming!! : )
OK... so I took A LOT of pictures!!!  I was totally in vacation mode... and now there are so many cute pictures I HAVE to include them all.... so beware!
All ready to go swimming... most of our swimming gear is in our camper at the camper lot so we didn't have access to most of it... good thing Owen doesn't need his floaties.... Addyson got to borrow them!
The water was a little cold for me... I didn't realize how cold it was since all of the kids were swimming at the party... funny how cold doesn't affect the little ones as much... or they just don't care.  I opted to just get my legs wet and then I got out to be the photographer!
Owen didn't want to get in at first but I told him to swim and it would warm him up!
Going in slowly to let them both get use to it!
Not sure if he would smile or not....the water is hitting his belly for the first time... that's nothing to smile about!
There's our happy guy... getting ready to swim for the first time this "season".
This is my kind of Saturday night family fun!!!
When Brad told Addyson that we were packing our bags to spend the night at the hotel and go swimming she told Brad she wasn't going to be able to swim because it would make her too tired... funny girl....
Once she saw how much fun the boys were having, it didn't take her long to get in the water and start having fun!!
After getting "warmed up", these two were ready to start swimming!!!  Ethan had a blast!!!  He was smiling and talking!  So cute!!!
And he hung on to that ball for dear life!
This is SO much fun, Mom!!!
Everyone swimming
"1, 2, 3.... Weeeee!"
Going under water... it is funny how the first time back in the pool it takes the kids a while to remember their skills from the end of last swimming season!  But, it didn't take too much time before Owen was swimming and going under water!
Part of their swimming routine is getting out of the pool to lay out and rest up!!!
Swimming is hard work... time to relax!
Warming up with Mommy!
And hammin' it up!! : )
Hey Daddy, I want back in there... it's more fun with the other kids!!!
So daddy came and got him to take him swimming again.....
... and after warming up with mom, the water was a little cold... look at that face... I think he changed his mind about swimming again! : )
Owen would throw the ball and then swim to get it.
Daddy would hold on to Addyson's feet and take her for a jet ride....
Blast Off!!
Ethan decided that it was better to be warm on the side of the pool!!  He found the ball and made a game with it!
He is starting to learn how to throw!!!  So he would get the ball and then throw it in the pool!
Daddy would hand it back for him to throw again!!!
"Yay!!!".... Man, he (Ethan) is getting SO big!!!
Warming up... and cheering on Ethan... we all got a kick out of Ethan's new skill(s)!!!
And now he constantly gives "High 5"s!!!!
Way to go Brother!!
The girl that didn't want to swim because she might be too tired was actually the last person in the pool!!!  We couldn't get her out!!  We were all out and she decided to swim another lap down and back in the pool!!!!  Our little Mermaid!
Drying off and getting warm while sister finishes up her lap!
Our hotel is right next to a restaurant we like so we debated walking over there to eat in, ordering take-out to pick up... or ordering pizza to be delivered.... pizza won!!!  SO easy and relaxing!!!  This is my idea of "dinner out" on a Saturday night!!!  It was SO nice to have the night off!!!
We spent the rest of the night relaxing in jammies... with Addyson taking pictures to document it all!
And since the kids were entertained, I got to blog a little bit! : )

The boys played a game behind the chair... it was an office or something... they had the phone, pens, paper, and were busy!  It was SO cute to watch Ethan follow Owen back there like he was a big boy and part of the game!! : )  I love how they make their own hotel fun... no need to bring a lot of toys... they make their own!

We also tried something new.... since we are working SO hard to night wean Ethan and get him to sleep on his own.... we got a pack and play for him to sleep in in the same room as the big kids!!  We put them to bed and let them talk until they fell asleep... and it worked!!!  That also meant that Brad and I got to hang out in the bedroom and watch tv/ play on the internet and we didn't have to go to sleep when the kids did!!!  That was SO nice!! Hard to believe they are all getting big enough to where travel is going to be that much easier!
Nammie joined us for breakfast at the hotel before church!!!  Awwww... what a fun night at the hotel and just the change/break we all needed!!!  We'll have to do this again soon when cabin fever starts to get the best of us!!!
